Cutting of the First Turf
Dr Gill Rouse (LINC Chair), Paul Lilley (Chief Executive Gloucestershire NHS), Dame Janet Trotter (Chair Gloucestershire NHS) with a fabulous fundraising cheque for £350,000.00.
The Work Begins
Dr Dalton was instrumental in persuading the East Gloucestershire Hospital Trust (as it was then) to let us build on an area of land on the hospital site adjoining the pathology department. This was funded with LINC donations and fund raising and was ‘topped up’ from the NHS.
The Grand Opening
We were overjoyed when José Carreras - one of the Three Tenors, agreed to be our guest of honour at the grand opening of the LINC Out Patients Suite in July 2003. As well as declaring the suite officially open, José presented LINC’s contribution for £350,000 to Paul Lilley, Chief Executive of the trust.
To our delight José Carreras and Bryn Terfel also agreed to give a Charity Gala Concert on an open-air stage at Cheltenham Racecourse that evening. This was the first of our celebrity concerts, which are now a bi-annual highlight of LINC’s calendar.
