Apperley Quarter Marathon
After a break of about 20 years the Apperley quarter marathon is taking place again with the aim of raising funds for LINC, which is the Apperley Cricket Club's chosen charity for 2010, and the cricket club itself.
The fun run took place several times in the 1980's with about two hundred runners in each event, including England and Gloucestershire cricketers Bill Athey and Jack Russell. It will incorporate road and cross country running and take in a run down by River Severn and a run (walk or crawl depending on fitness!) past the historic Deerhurst Church. The distance covered will be just over 6 miles.
Apperley Cricket Club is situated between Tewkesbury, Gloucester and Cheltenham and will provide stewarding, medical support and changing facilities.
There are a number of categories to race.
- Top Male
- Top Female
- Top Junior
- Top Village Male Parishioner
- Top Female Parishioner

Directions to Apperley
If coming off the A38, which is where most people come from, take the Ledbury turning at the traffic lights between Tewkesbury and Coombe Hill and follow the road for about a mile into Apperley. Either take the first right in the Village, drive past village hall and take first left at crossroads. About half a mile along that road is the cricket club on the right hand side.
If you pass the first turning carry on this road for about a mile (past the Farmers Arm pub on the left: please pass it!) and turn right into Apperley. The ground is on the left in less than half a mile.
For those with SATNAV - the post code in GL20 5ED, welcome to Apperley.
The Course
Start at Apperley Cricket Club!
Head directly into the heart of the village past the school and take a turn left down Gabb Lane (fortunately this lane is a nice downhill section)
Start the cross country section along the bank along the River Severn towards Deerhurst
Enter Deerhurst and run past the historic Anglo Saxon Deerhurst Church and Odda's Chapel.
Come back into Apperley and past the school again and finish at the cricket club.
It is easy (well not easy but not difficult with a bit of training!)
